Kishon River

Meaning "Winding"

A small river which flows from east to west through the Valley of Jezreel. In the spring it achieves a width of about 65 feet and a length of 23 miles. It was at the Kishon that Deborah and Barak defeated the Canaanite Sisera when his chariots became mired in the marshes (Judg. 4:7,13; 5:21). Later the river was the place where Elijah brought the prophets of Baal to be executed following God’s display and victory on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:40).
